CÓGELO CON TEIQUIRISI…
Like Temperance/La Templanza, La Piragua is a card of balance, flow, and alchemy, in which seemingly disparate elements come together to bring about the perfect harmony. A piragua, in Puerto Rico, is the delightful snow cone that helps us cool down in the Caribbean heat, while in Colombia, a piragua is a wooden canoe that flows down rivers and inspires classic cumbias.
If you get La Piragua in a reading, cool down and flow. This card invokes both water and earth for you—the canoe sits partly in the water and partly on the ground, and the piragua combines frozen water with the incomparable fruits of the earth. This means it’s time to dive into your intuition while also leaning into your practical, grounded self, trusting the balance between the two.
What situations require your patience right now? What combination of elements can you call upon to achieve—and maintain—your equilibrium? Meditate, imagining you’re in a sturdy canoe, floating placidly on calm waters…while a cool frambuesa syrup flows from the top of your head all the way down your spine. Mmmmm. Breathe in, hum a little cumbia, and smile.

If you didn’t know… The face here is José Barros, the indigenous Colombian composer of “La Piragua.” On his chest, the icon of a piragua cone features the reiki symbol Nin Giz Zida for calming and grounding.
